The Great Gatsby is the most famous novel by F. S. Fitzgerald.
The story is set in the 1920s, the period of Prohibition and the so-called. jazz age in the USA. The young rich man James Gatz, nicknamed the Great Gatsby, and the beautiful Daisy Buchanan have both broken into the spheres of better society in their own way and are similarly coping with their new lifestyles. Gatsby gets fabulously rich in the illegal liquor trade, but he will never fit into the new society because interpersonal relationships are still of the highest value to him.
