The fall of the Emperor's son-in-law

Charles IV. with the Austrian Duke Albrecht II. agreed on the kinship of the Luxembourg and Habsburgs. When he married his daughter Katherine to Albrecht's son Rudolf, he had no idea what this gifted young man would turn out to be. The self-confident and ambitious Rudolf wants his father-in-law to renounce the crown of the Lombard kings in his favour and appoint him archduchess.

When his proposal fails, he comes out with documents according to which the ancient emperors made Austria an archduchy independent of the Holy Roman Empire. Charles, of course, cannot afford such a rebellion and sends his secret agent, the Dominican friar Paul, to investigate the matter. It's about time, because my son-in-law even wants to go to war against my father-in-law!
