The Empress

One night the whole world changed

Human history has shattered and the fragments of civilizations from prehistory to the distant future have been reassembled into a chaotic collage. Cultures previously separated by a gulf of hundreds or even thousands of years came into direct contact.
Fate has brought the former archaeology student Tonia to the head of the Roman legions, which managed to defeat the Nazis with the help of Serena's battle robot. Accompanied by legions, Tonia eventually entered a ruined Rome, where she was proclaimed ruler of the empire. Now she faces the daunting task of consolidating the Empire and restoring glory to the Eternal City. The Legionnaires come into contact with other temporal enclaves, including the Sicily of the future, controlled by Islamists eager to spread the true faith to Italy. In Tuscany, meanwhile, the influence of the Church, which considers pagan Rome its arch-enemy, is growing. Also arriving on the scene is an experimental military creature named Viktor, a cyborg with a primal instinct to fight. And last but not least, there is the desire for power of the old Roman aristocracy, led by Septimius Severus, who - but for the Fall of Time - should have become emperor.
Can Tonya withstand external and internal enemies? Will Serena's battle robot be given an equal opponent? And can the Roman Empire make it in the new world, or will it perish?

Roman Bures

Roman Bures

The native of Kladno loves (besides his family) cats and dogs, Southeast Asia, ancient Rome and MMA. He used to work as a bodyguard and bouncer in Prague clubs, and now he uses his rich life experience in his books. He started writing quite late, at the end of 2011, when he was just looking for something to occupy his lazy brain. This innocent hobby eventually got the better of him, for he has since written eleven books. Epocha Publishing has published the fantasy novel Inferium (2019), in which the Waffen-SS invades Hell and meets the Legion of Satan. His next book, Empire (2020), is set in an alternate past in which the Nazis have won the war. In Planet of the Idiots (2021), humanity must face a humane apocalypse. In Inferio 2: Invasion (2022) returns to Ronan and Satan's hellish realm as it faces invasion and struggles for its existence. Roman Bureš is characterised by original themes and a high level of textual processing, which is also evident in the short stories O lidském dobytku from the anthology Ve shínu Říše (2017), Nemesis from the sister anthology Ve shínu apokalypsy (2018) or Welcome to Hell in the anthology Ve shínu magie (2019). He published his best short stories in the collection Welcome to Hell (2022). However, he always considered his best story to be The Abyss of Time. As he matured as an author, he became dissatisfied with his original treatment - which eventually led to a complete rewrite of the entire trilogy.
