The author's inventive way of scaring or at least frightening the reader, and at the same time entertaining him in a funny way, has long been a favourite among consumers of stories about vampires, bloodthirsty monsters or werewolves. The proof is, among other things, the placement of the selection of "100 best horror films" in the top ten books written by young people in the reading diaries of 9th grade primary school pupils. MILOSLAV ŠVANDRLIK Born in Prague in 1932. He studied at the DAMU for two years, first acting, then after six months he switched to directing. His subsequent transfer to FAMU was unsuccessful and he joined the Village Theatre in Prague as an assistant director. After returning from military service, he worked for six months as a tutor for Korean children. He has been writing ever since. In his novel The Black Barons, he introduces the character of Kefalin. Švandrlík, who soon after the war remained a freelance writer, writing short stories and feuilletons for newspapers and magazines. However, Švandrlík gained the greatest popularity with his book The Black Barons or We Waged War for the Caps, in which he recounts the fate of members of the PTP based on his own experiences. The novel was written during the "Prague Spring", after which M. Švandrlík has been publishing for some time, with the exception of Porcupine. Contributing to this humorous magazine was his only livelihood for most of the 1970s. During that time he poured out thousands of themes for jokes drawn by Jiří Wintr-Nepraktou. He also performed with him in joint variety shows for about a year. He has written several radio and television scripts. He died in Prague in 2009.
