The devil will wait

The courier that was apprehended is carrying something much worse than a shipment of drugs.
A man is found with his throat slit in a lair that looks like the antechamber of hell.
A pair of teenagers gun down dozens of passengers on a high-speed TGV train in cold blood.
Healthy people die in their homes with faces expressing indescribable horror.

Ludivine Vancker, from the Investigation Department of the Paris Gendarmerie, after her experience with absolute evil and a conspiracy of brutal criminals two years ago, soon realizes that all these cases are probably connected by one bloody thread, one cold, psychopathic, manipulative personality – and nothing can stop the young investigator from following the trail leading from the perpetrators to the hatchery of their twisted inspiration. To the root of fear. She plunges into dark waters and is ready to swim through them to stop the growing epidemic of evil at its source. The devil himself is probably waiting for her there…

Following The Assemblage of Scoundrels (Metaphor, 2021), The Devil Will Wait is another of Chattam's masterful thrillers that will keep you up at night.
