The Count of Monte Cristo I
Alexandre Dumas's timeless novel about a terrible betrayal and profound revenge tells the story of the young Edmond Dantès, who is unjustly accused and condemned by his enemies. After fourteen years in prison, he manages to escape and, thanks to an immense treasure, embarks on a path of vengeance. This first volume contains the first two books of this famous novel. The book was published in 1945 in a translation by the exceptional poet and translator Vladimír Roy, and the quality of the translation is evidenced by the fact that most abridged editions until the end of the 20th century used it as their basis.
