Tantric Kali

In Tantric Kali, the author presents the mythology, practices and rituals of Kali worship in the Kaula tantric tradition within Kashmir Shivaism. It reveals the practices of Vamachara commonly known as the Way of the Left Hand, but more accurately translated as the Way of Shakti. In this tradition, the body itself is the temple of Kali, and thus it is not necessary to reject or deny the body in order to know oneness with the Divine. Instead, nothing is considered pure or impure, and everything is rule-free. This path, aimed directly at working with forbidden emotions and behaviors, enables the adept to transcend the obstacles on the path to liberation through sexual connection. According to the Kaula Upanishads: "In your behavior, do the opposite of what the rules dictate, but remain conscious." This is the essence of tantra. Kali is absolute reality manifested as a woman intoxicated with desire; The tantric adept is freed from all desires except the desire to unite with the Divine.
