South Bohemian races and circuits

The book South Bohemian Races and Circuits is another instalment in the look at motorsport on city circuits and in hill climbs. It loosely follows on from the editions on Central, North, West, and East Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia.
Road races in South Bohemia began in Třeboň in the second half of the 1930s and were the only race in the pre-war period in this region. After the Second World War, races started in Strakonice, Písek, Hluboká nad Vltavou, Kaplice, Tábor, Jindřichův Hradec, and several other places. Although South Bohemia cannot boast a large number of races like other regions, two events – the Zlaté kolo (Golden Wheel) in Třeboň and the Okruh prezidenta dr. Beneše (President Dr Beneš's Circuit) in Tábor – had very high-quality line-ups that many of our other competitive events lacked.
The South Bohemian factory ČZ in Strakonice was also a big name in motorsport, both with its products in the road racing and motocross disciplines. Both were the foundation for a number of world-class racers. Besides Alois and Bohumil Roučkov, Zdeněk Polánka, and Arnošt Zemen, there were also Bohumil Staša, Stanislav Malina, and František Boček. However, an excellent designer, Ing. František Pudil, the creator of our fastest road motorcycle, the ČZ, also worked in Strakonice. Bohumil Staša, who built his own MBS motorcycle, continued this tradition. You will get to know them and other excellent racers and designers in a separate part of the book.
South Bohemia is also known as an organiser of car rallies. Racers with famous names competed here, and many races had international participation. In the 1960s, the legendary Vltava Rally was held here, and today, competitions are held in Český Krumlov and Klatovy.
The book is supplemented with maps of the circuits, period photographs that have not been published before, and, as is tradition, a balance sheet of the results is also included.
