The artist Ctirad Karafiát lives a quiet life with his daughter. A turning point in Ctirad's life comes when he receives a visit from a criminal investigating the death of a young woman. The manner of her death bears a striking resemblance to the brutal murder of the artist's wife more than twenty years ago. Ctirad ignores the strong warnings of the members of the investigating team, joins the search and becomes close to the criminalist, who eventually has to defend him not only from the criminals but also from his colleague because of his unusual intervention in the investigation.
