Snuggle Nest

“Homecoming” is perhaps the most fitting description for the book, Home of the Gentry. After years spent abroad, Fyodor Ivanovich Lavretsky returns to his birthplace. After a life of disappointment and suffering, it is here that he finds understanding, acceptance, and love. However, the past cannot be completely erased, and it soon comes knocking at his door with its grave consequences.
According to many critics, Home of the Gentry is one of Turgenev’s best works in terms of both theme and content. Authors such as Henry James and Gustave Flaubert also found inspiration in it.
The text is based on the translation by Dobroslav Chrobák, and only grammatical changes have been made to it.
