The protagonists of the book are a pair of police officers, Major JUDr. Jaroslav Falta and captain Petr Brouček. Major JUDr. Falta, a former investigator and a typical prototype of an official, and Captain Brouček, a criminologist in body and soul, dealing with violent and moral crime. This represents a pair full of opposites, complementing each other and working effectively on assigned cases.
Depending on the nature of the cases being solved, they are joined by colleagues dealing with drug crime, crime committed by and against youth, property crime, and economic crime. Although these are " district-level" criminal investigators, they do not avoid cases of national importance or cases related to international organized crime or money laundering.
Each story is dedicated to one criminal case solved by both protagonists, and the book as such reflects the professional, but especially private, joys and sorrows of the pair of main actors.
This is a collection of thirteen crime stories inspired by real cases from the early 21st century.
Based on the first short story, director Jiří Svoboda made a crime film called Domina.
