Shivers

Unhappy with her life, the forty-year-old protagonist, Michelle, suddenly decides to leave her home and her husband. However, she finds her newfound freedom to be a torment and must rediscover herself and the certainties she has lost. The only support in her state of traumatic 'detachment' comes from her energetic and zany friend, Blanche, and her volatile psychotherapist, Ariel. Readers of the book *Fire* (2022) will already be familiar with the author's experimental style and fragmented language, which perfectly capture the internal monologues. Yet, the novel *Trembling* also showcases her sarcasm and intelligent humour, elevating the reading experience to a multi-layered one.
