The first part of a successful seven-part series first published during the First Republic.
Kája Mařík grows up in a grove near the village of Lážov. His parents are poor and are trying to raise him as best they can. But with Kaja it's not so easy! There is so much going on all around - and Kája would like to be there. Why should he sit for several hours a day in a school desk when everything outside is growing and blooming. It's a good thing that Kája enjoys singing so much and sings beautifully, even the parish priest noticed it - and Kája likes to minister. Kája has a lot of friends - but her favourite one is Zdenička, even though she is still a little girl. Girl! And they have had many adventures together since they were young.
