Rudolf Medek: Colonel Svec

25 October 2018 marks the centenary of the voluntary death of Colonel Josef Jiří Švec, a man who was at the birth of the Czech Company in Kiev in 1914 and devoted his entire life to the legionary service in Russia. Ten years later, the fate of Colonel Svec inspired the poet and former legionnaire Rudolf Medek to write a drama which, despite various critical voices from both military and literary circles, achieved a unique audience success in its time. On the occasion of the centenary of the founding of the Czechoslovak Republic and the funeral of Colonel Schvec, Lukáš Hlavica with Ivan Trojan in the lead role staged the play for Czech Radio in an adaptation by Jaroslav Vostrý.
