Pillar of Fire

After the Pillars of the Earth and Forever and Ever, the world's favourite historical sagas by bestselling author Ken Follett, Here comes the Pillar of Fire, a third branching story set in the English town of Kingsbridge, the story of powerful rulers and their indispensable assistants, a story full of intrigue, of murder and betrayal, but also love, friendship and hope. The year is 1558 and Europe is plagued by religious conflicts. But at the moment, eighteen-year-old Ned Willard wants nothing more than to marry Margery Fitzgerald. However, their relationship is not a happy one and Ned leaves to work for Princess Elizabeth. The moment Elizabeth becomes queen, the whole of Europe will turn against England. Protected by a dedicated group of imaginative spies and daring secret agents, she clings to her throne and her principles. The real struggle pits those who believe in tolerance and compromise against the tyrants who impose their views on everyone else - whatever the cost...
