Challenges and Opportunities in Teaching Physical Education in Primary Schools
Schools today are confronted with new, pressing tasks arising primarily from the developmental dynamics of contemporary society. They are dealing with new opinions and findings in the fields of pedagogy, subject didactics, and the psychology of effective learning and education. They are significantly influenced by the transformation of the educational reality, brought about by the development in the sphere of information and communication technologies. With new foundational documents, there are shifts in goals, concepts of subjects, and demands for changes in content, forms, and methods. Even after a quarter of a century of the programme's existence, many expectations have not been met, either in the work of teachers or in their training. Teacher education for primary schools is multidisciplinary, and therefore broad and diverse, which can make teaching physical education problematic for many of these teachers. The aim of this publication is to formulate practical possibilities for teaching physical education in primary schools within the current context.
