Personality in projective methods
This publication by American clinical psychologist Steven Tuber explores the possibilities of using projective methods in personality diagnosis. In the first part of the book, the author introduces the reader to the conceptual framework of the approach to the interpretation of the outcomes of individual methods, which is mainly based on psychodynamically oriented approaches. He clearly explains his view of the relationship between apparent symptom and inner conflict, the concept of personality domains, and the dynamics of their interplay from which authentic human experience grows.
The theoretical framework is then linked to the outputs of „ batteries“ projective methods (Rorschach method, Thematic Apperception Test, incomplete sentences test, animal choice test). Each of the methods is discussed separately and accompanied by an illustrative case study. At the end of the book, the author presents a case report in which all the above mentioned methods are applied to one patient.
The book is particularly interesting and valuable in that it guides the reader towards creative psychological thinking about data obtained through projective methods that is also solidly grounded in theory. The publication is intended for all those interested in working with projective methods – beginners, but also those who already use the methods in their practice and want to expand their own register of ideas.
