Perchta of Rožmberk or The White Lady
An educated, beautiful and brave woman
The daughter of Oldřich of Rožmberk, Perchta lived in hard times and in an unhappy marriage. Still, she has shown herself to be a strong woman. A lyrical novel that contains unknown details about this educated noblewoman.
She was born into a rich Czech Catholic family of Oldřich of Rožmberk. She lived through a difficult time and an unhappy marriage. Despite this, she did not give up on her life and showed herself to be a strong woman. Her life was influenced by the tense situation in the country, which faced a split between Catholics and Utraquists, and by her marriage to John of Liechtenstein, whom the family married in 1449. These are the well-known circumstances of the life of a medieval noblewoman. Eda Krise, however, brings to her novel a participation and admiration for the bravery with which Perchta endured great hardships. The author was inspired to depict the joyless life of a woman by the letters in which Perchta wrote not only her determination but also her great despair.
