People without history are dust
The queer history of the Holocaust, i. e. the issue of same-sex desire among Holocaust victims, remained a blank spot in historical research until recently. The reason is the widespread homophobia of victims and survivors, which has led to the voices of these people being largely erased from the archives. Anna Hájková' s book offers the first attempt to capture the history of these silenced voices. In three chapters: With an introduction to queer desire during the Holocaust, the dramatic story of Prague resistance fighter Irena Millerová, and five fates of queer Jewish teenagers, including Anne Frank, People Without History Are Dust offers a well-founded insight into a long-hidden history that is changing our understanding of the history of the Holocaust. The Czech translation is complemented by the original foreword by documentarian and historian Martin Šmok. – Comes with support Goethe Institute.
