Pavel Molek: My counter-occupied homeland this time
National Theatre, 5 June 1939. The performance of Smetana's My Country, broadcast live by Czechoslovak Radio and picked up by radio stations in Paris and Oslo, marks the culmination of the Prague Music May - an extraordinary festival initiated by conductor Václav Talich and aimed at "straightening our spine and filling us with a sense of dignified identity". The action of Molka's play takes place during a sound check of the aforementioned gala performance of Smetana's cycle of symphonic poems, the smooth course of which is disrupted by an unexpected fact. The three musicians intend to read out a political appeal to the rest of Europe during the live broadcast, convinced that they need to use this unique opportunity to send a signal about the true state of the sad Czech existence. Such a message, posted in the orchestra half an hour before the broadcast, is understandably like a load of dynamite? They are Zdenek Nemec, Josef Morávek and Egon Ledeč are the epitome of courage, who is not afraid to express her convictions and fight for them, or gamblers, who don't just drive themselves into disaster, but everyone involved? What are the consequences of such actions? All sides of the dispute turn to the conductor's podium, to Václav Talich.
The main role of VáclavTalich was played by Viktor Preiss, the roles of the three rebel musicians were played by Pavel Batěk, Martin Finger and Petr Lněnička.
