Ordinary liars

Wives. Mothers. Liars.

Emma and Lucie couldn't be more different at first glance, but they share one top-secret vice...
Beautiful and wealthy Emma has seemingly everything, from a loving husband to career success, but boredom and restlessness repeatedly drive her to foolish behaviour.
The young widow Lucie, on the other hand, is busy paying the rent and dealing with her stubborn son.
The decisions they both make for different reasons lead to their meeting - in community service. There they quickly discover that there is an unexpected connection between them.
They're both liars.
And a first-class one at that.
They add Florrie to the party, a cutting septuagenarian who can offer them wise words and a shoulder to cry on. But the waterfall of lies does not end there.
Both Emma and Lucie are determined to keep their transgressions and shame hidden from their loved ones - and as the spiral of unhealthy relationships widens, they both quickly move towards becoming its victims.
Can they extricate themselves from the minefield of their own lies and deceptions before they destroy everything they care about?

A beautiful story about how important second chances can be. I'm glad I was able to read a novel this year that was as great as this one. Everyday joys and sorrows, authentically presented. I really liked the book.

A great novel full of love and hate, friendship, complex family relationships, but also very touching moments that will not leave any reader cold.

Although it might seem to be a banal novel for women, the opposite is true. The story grabbed me from the first page and I read the book in one go, I even skipped some food for it, I wish more books could do this. I found the main characters Lucie and Emma very likable despite their vices and faults and I experienced the story with them the whole time. The novel is punctuated with lies, but it's not the most important thing and the whole plot isn't based on it, which I enjoyed a lot. The book gave me an atmosphere of friendship. And even though the two main characters are not always completely positive and make mistakes, they have pure souls and open hearts.
Both Emma and Lucie are sentenced to community service, where they meet and discover that although they lead completely different lives, they are close in some way.
They both try to hide their transgressions from their friends and family but unfortunately this leads to more lies and problems. They are trapped by their own lies and deceit and are in danger of losing everything they care about. For me, a well-written novel, very sensitively and engagingly portrayed all kinds of interpersonal relationships, support, understanding, anger and forgiveness and of course love in a very non-violent way. The book evoked a wave of different emotions in me. This is exactly my cup of coffee.
I am very happy to recommend it especially to women.
