On a full throttle - A great decade in Formula 1
I've been offered to write a sequel to Survive and Race before, but to tell you the truth, nothing came to mind. Until I got fired...
A favourite outsider among F1 bosses - and, as he says, an old man with a knack for talking out of turn - reveals the real story of the Haas team in a new book. With the tongue in cheek and verve of a self-made man, he recounts the first decade of their tenure at the elite level of motorsport and the circumstances of their surprise departure at the end of 2023. Where did the idea of setting up an American Formula 1 stable come from, using the know-how of rival Ferrari? How difficult was it to find funding, procure the necessary licenses, build the necessary infrastructure and hire qualified employees? What complicated the selection of quality drivers and testing of race cars and what battles did they end up fighting on the race tracks? And how did Guenther Steiner himself, who tried to keep the whole madness afloat and who later became famous for his performance in the successful Netflix series Desire to Win, experience all this?
The former Haas boss describes the team's opening decade in Formula 1 and summarises the team's successes and failures in a straightforward manner. It takes the audience into the pit lane, behind the boardroom doors and onto the most famous racing circuits.

Guenther Steiner
The automotive engineer and team manager was born in Merano in South Tyrol, one of the cultural centres of the German-speaking minority in northern Italy, but his long career in motorsport (from rallying to monoposto racing) has made him a true world traveler. He and his family are now based in the United States, where the F1 Haas team is based. He spends ten months of the year travelling between continents, the itinerary of which is determined by the Grand Prix calendar. Since 2014, he has been putting his experience gained at Jaguar - where he was invited by his friend and mentor Niki Lauda - and Red Bull to good use as the boss of the only overseas Formula 1 team currently named after billionaire Gene Haas. Steiner's unexpected popularity was earned by appearing in the successful documentary series F1: The desire to win (Formula 1: Drive to Survive), which has now run for five seasons on Netflix. The book edition (2023) of the diary, in which the author originally glosses over the course of the past racing season, has therefore also had a considerable response. He then summed up his entire tenure at Haas in his book At Full Throttle (2024) after his surprising dismissal.
