Notes from the Transition
Daniela Špinar's personal diary about transition and the search for identity
What is it like when a man, after forty-two years in a man's body, suddenly comes to the realization that he is a woman? In October 2021, Daniela Špinar, a successful theatre director and one-time artistic director of the National Theatre Drama Department, asked herself a fundamental question about her identity, and it triggered an avalanche of unsuspected emotions. After the subsequent coming-out, she was met with a wave of support and love from one side and misunderstanding and disgust from the other. With her own openness Daniela reveals her inner feelings and painful experiences with society, her search for a partner and herself by publishing her diary.
Daniela Špinar's private writings from her three-year period of transition reflect the transformations of body and soul while offering insights into the world of the queer community.
