Marshall B. Rosenberg, Ph.D. was an American psychologist and the creator of the concept of Nonviolent Communication. He grew up in a troubled Detroit neighbourhood, where he developed a deep interest in new forms of communication that would provide an alternative to the violence he encountered. His interest led him to a doctorate in clinical psychology, which he received in 1961 from the University of Wisconsin, where he studied under Carl R. Rogers. Further life experiences and the study of comparative religion motivated him to develop the principle of nonviolent communication. He worked as an instructor and mediator all over the world for decades.
