No headaches from taxes

A fallow deer's head never aches, but the same can't always be said for the owner of the game reserve. Just like the author's previous works, this collection of short stories revolves primarily around nature and hunting. In tales based on true events, the author guides the reader through a picturesque submontane landscape. Sun-warmed meadows, the scent of fallen apples, the acrobatic feats of swifts crisscrossing the azure sky, the shimmer of the golden sun on the clear water's surface, the infinite silence of forest valleys—all this forms the backdrop for hunting experiences and the eternal clash of life and death that accompanies both the animal and human worlds, which the author observes with wise detachment. Aleš Dostál (*1946) was born in Ostrava, graduated from the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Agriculture in Brno, and worked for the Forests of the Czech Republic. He is the author of numerous novels and short stories.
