While investigating a murder on an oil rig, Norwegian inspector Kirsten Nigaard stumbles upon a series of photographs. A few days later, he is sitting in the office of Martin Servaz, a criminologist in Toulouse, looking at the images with interest. They show him captured through the lens of the elusive serial killer Julian Hirtmann. But that's not all. The next picture is of a small child, Gustav. For Kirsten and Martin, a terrifying journey begins with an even more terrifying enemy at the end.
