Murder in the Ambyte

Three detective stories, set in the mid-13th century, return to the youth of Oldřich of Chlum

They explain some events preceding the novels published in the edition Sinful People of the Kingdom of Bohemia. The first story tells of a mysterious murder that Oldřich of Chlum unwittingly witnesses while studying in Magdeburg. A mysterious killer is after his life and the only way to save him is to uncover the truth.

The second story takes place at the time when the young Oldřich of Chlum comes to Prague Castle for the first time. Here, the squire Ota of Zástřizli enters his service, whom he rescues from a tricky situation and is appointed royal procurator for his merits.

The third story, The Fatal Tournament, is set near Bezděz Castle, where he gets to investigate a complex case of a power struggle between the most powerful noble families of North Bohemia. He uncovers a mysterious murder and in a bloody duel wins the heart of Ludmilla of Vartemberk, his future wife.
