Midnight is coming round again

Audiobook Midnight Come Again, author Dana Stabenow, translated by Hana Láryšová. Read by Lucie Juřičková, directed by Helena Rytířová. Kate Shugak #10 FOLLOWING RECENT TERRIFYING EVENTS, KATE SHUGAK MUST SOLVE A NEW CASE. Police officer Jim Chopin, nicknamed Chopper Jim, faces a difficult task: to find private investigator Kate Shugak. Neither she nor her half-wolf, Mutt, have been seen for several months. Jim suspects that if Kate doesn't want to be found, no one will find her. But then, by a malicious twist of fate, Jim stumbles upon her in Bering, a fishing town founded by Moravian missionaries on the west coast of Alaska. It is there that Kate has hidden from the world under a false identity. While Kate tries to escape thoughts of a recent tragedy through endless drudgery loading aeroplanes, Jim, along with the FBI, is searching for stolen Russian plutonium. But before they can discuss the last few months of her life, they find themselves in deep in Jim's case, which has suddenly become more complicated and much more dangerous than it first appeared. DANA STABENOW Dana Stabenow was born in 1952 in Anchorage, Alaska, and grew up on a fishing boat where, between bouts of seasickness, she wrote stories about 'normal' children growing up on land and forced her mother to read them. She graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of Alaska and then embarked on a four-month backpacking trip across Europe. Upon her return, she worked for Alyeska Pipeline and British Petroleum. In her thirties, she decided she didn't want to spend her life in thrall to oil tycoons and would rather be a poor writer. She promised herself she would publish her first book before she was completely broke, and she managed it just in the nick of time. In 1991, her debut novel, Second Star, was published, followed a year later by the first instalment of the popular Kate Shugak series, A Cold Day for Murder, which won an Edgar Award in 1993. LUCIE JUŘIČKOVÁ She comes from an artistic family and was born in Plzeň, where her father, František Juřička (1927), worked as a radio director. For his civic attitudes and active involvement in 1968, he was eventually persecuted and ended up as a political prisoner during the Normalisation period. Lucie Juřičková's mother, Marie Grafnetterová (1933), was a long-time star of the operetta company at the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň, as an actress and singer. After graduating from the conservatory, she got her first engagement at the Jiří Wolker Theatre in Prague. She has worked in various Prague theatres. She is currently engaged at the National Theatre. Besides theatre, she focuses mainly on voice-over work. Her husband is the actor Martin Zahálka, who is also active in voice-over work.
