Michael Thonet

The monograph on Michael Thonet and his world-famous company, written by the leading Czech expert Jiří Uhlíř, is a unique European publication on the subject. It is a story from the golden age of the industrial revolution, the story of an invention that gave birth to an entire industry – production of furniture made of bentwood.

In this image-rich publication you will get acquainted with a wide range of well-known and absolutely rare products. You can follow the author's almost detective-like search for the personal and family history of the pioneer of this unique technology and founder of factories in Koryčany, Bystřice pod Hostýnem and others, research in card catalogues, museums and collections of several countries.
