Mesopotamia
Mesopotamis, a city of gigantic proportions powered by steam. A city where thousands of temples spew soot into the air and cryptex dispatches whizz through the pipe system. A city of astronomical clocks, with rings of locomotive circuits rotating around its perimeter like the hands of a clock. A city built at the end of the digital age, when a handful of survivors sought refuge in the cradle of civilisation – between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. A city whose leaders mercilessly ensure the megalopolis is not exposed to the destructive threats of progress again: They use all means necessary to keep civilisation in a pre-electricity stage. In a poor desert district, thirty-five-year-old clockmaker Noam Baars makes extra money by building telegraphic devices and selling them on the black market. While fleeing the ever-present guards, he joins a resistance group led by a woman named Sariah Davi. So begins a frantic, hundreds-of-miles-long adventure across the city, its past, and its future. A journey that inevitably leads to Babylon and to a danger that threatens this single civilisation... Or is it the only one?
