Memory
Discover the fascinating mechanisms of the brain that play a key role in how we experience our lives.
Do you often struggle to remember where you put your keys? Do you remember something differently from your friends? In short, are you forgetful? There's no need to panic!
Memory is much more than just a perfect record of the past—and what's more, it can be successfully trained to help you remember what's truly important in your life. The human brain isn't built for memorisation, but primarily for thinking.
Based on the latest research and captivating personal stories, neuroscientist and psychologist Charan Ranganath debunks long-held myths about memory, forgetting, and effective learning. He reveals not only how our brain processes the past, but above all, how we use this information to understand ourselves, in our relationships, or to weave our visions of the future.
In the book, you will learn, among other things: If we didn't forget, we would need to store about 34 gigabytes of information in our heads every day.The ability to recall what we need at any given moment can be learned.By working with our memory, we can escape the grip of prejudice and the clutches of trauma. It's surprisingly easy to implant false memories in people, even of acts they didn't commit. We can combat the decline of memory during ageing with proven methods. How to reduce the influence of disinformation and make decisions more freely.Social interactions significantly shape, as well as distort, our collective memories.
