Melpomene in chains?

The monograph by the novelist Záviš Šuman is the result of his long-term study of early modern French drama and contemporary interpretation of Aristotle's Poetics. Particularly valuable is his theoretical-methodological approach, i.e. Evaluation of the corpus of theoretical and critical texts on the poetics of tragedy in the contemporary context, with an emphasis on the most accurate analysis of contemporary concepts and pointing out that theoretical solutions did not always coincide with practice. < br> The documented texts of the French originals are presented in parallel with the (mostly) author's translation. The publication is supplemented by an informative notebook, an extensive bibliography, an index and a summary in English and French.
