Managing stress in sport

What is important for success in sports and what role does the psyche play? Why do some people suffer from stage fright and others don' t, and is it possible to improve your psychological resilience? These and other questions are common in sports practice, which is why the author of this book addresses them. Its main part consists of information about regulatory and self-regulatory techniques in sports and a description of individual relaxation techniques: autogenic training, progressive muscle relaxation, breathing exercises, relaxation and stretching exercises with a relaxation goal and others, including practical instructions for individual exercises and their appropriate combinations.

Relaxation techniques represent one of the options of targeted self-regulation in sport psychology, i.e. a way to psychologically streamline and accelerate the recovery processes after training, as well as to tune the current psychological state before performance, in training and in competition. The book explains the basic terms, such as stress, relaxation, regeneration and current psychological state, necessary for understanding the issue, supplemented by an analysis of some aspects of the athlete' s psyche important for his success in sports, so for his mental health.

The publication is intended primarily for performance and fitness athletes, coaches and other sports professionals, as well as all those who follow an active lifestyle, fitness, wellness and of course also to physical education students, physiotherapy, psychology and all related fields.
