The Paris Criminal Police are on their feet again. Commissioner Maigret is about to take on his longest case yet.
"Maigret did not yet know that what they were now beginning to talk about would soon bring him to the conclusion of what would henceforth be called 'Maigret's longest case' on the Embankment of the Goldsmiths.
The Paris Criminal Police are on their feet again. There was another robbery at a jewellery shop, but this time a rank-and-file policeman lost his life. No sooner has Maigret proven his innocence in the false accusation affair than he continues to investigate serial thefts. All the clues lead to Manuel Palmarim, but he is soon murdered. But who could be interested in silencing a terminally ill gangster? And where to start the search? Maigret doesn't go far and starts by questioning witnesses in the house where Palmari lived. His instincts won't fail him even then.
The story is loosely based on the audiobook Maigret Defends Himself.
