Inflation is spiralling, Germany is politically torn, and the people cannot find peace after losing the war. Detective Inspector Leo Wechsler, a widowed father of two, is confronted with a mysterious murder. A miracle healer, whose patients came from the higher echelons of society, has been beaten to death with a Buddha figurine. There are no witnesses, no clues. A short while later, a prostitute is murdered. Could these cases be connected in any way? The investigation takes Inspector Wechsler to elegant mansions, impoverished districts, cocaine dens and red-light districts. To make matters worse, it is further complicated by Wechsler's colleague, von Malchow, who openly professes his right-wing nationalist views…
