Legends of Orava

This collection of lesser-known legends from the Orava region was first published in 1945. Unlike previous selections, in addition to its focus on Orava, it also delves into local history and personalities, making it an interesting record of life in the middle of the last century.
Janko Oravský is the pseudonym of Rudolf Kratochvíl, the headmaster of the burgher school in Dolný Kubín and later a university teacher. During his time in Orava, he maintained close contact with Ladislav Nádaši-Jégé and Pavol Országh-Hviezdoslav. The text has been digitised from the original edition with minimal stylistic and grammatical adjustments.
