Alois Jirásek's fairytale play Lucerna is one of the stalwarts of the Czech dramatic repertoire. A story about a stubborn miller and his beloved Hanicka, a beautiful and fair princess, a group of country musicians, watermen and a treacherous manor court. Jirásek's fairy-tale play Lucerna is one of the best known titles of older Czech drama. It was already interesting at its premiere in 1905, when it was staged on the stage of the National Theatre by director Jaroslav Kvapil. He entrusted the artistic aspect of the performance to Mikoláš Alš and invited the then head of the opera, Karel Kovařovice, to collaborate on the music. Even today, there are theatregoers and audiences who will be delighted by this smiling piece. Ivan the waterman with his ribbons and human longing for love, a stubborn miller, defending Hanicka, their rights and a hundred-year-old lime tree, a fake manor, comic country musicians, these are rewarding acting opportunities for several generations of actors. We hope that you will also appreciate the offer of this comedy in the Gold Fund recording, in which you will hear Maria Burešová, Felix Le Breux and, as the young teacher, Václav Voska, whom we have come to associate in later productions with characters of a completely different nature.
