Land without a horizon

Interview with a popular priest, Salesian, lover of rock music and underground
Ladislav Heryán is one of the outstanding personalities of Czech public life. He is known to many people as a Catholic priest who has close ties to the underground, loves rock music, and has held services at rock festivals, such as. at the Open Air Festival in Trutnov. But his life's scope is much deeper: As a Salesian he has been serving young people and children for many years, as a Bible scholar he taught at the Faculty of Theology of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, and now he works at the Jabok Higher Vocational School of Social Pedagogy and Theology and at the Institute of Ecumenical Studies at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of Charles University in Prague. He is sought after as a priest, but for many people he is simply a good friend and a close person.
Several years ago, editor Petr Vaďura and Ladislav Heryán began recording radio interviews with biblical texts for the Morning Word programme, which has been accompanying the listeners of the Czech Radio Vltava station on Sunday mornings for many years. Then Ladislav Heryán appeared several times as a guest on the Christian Wave of Czech Radio Pilsen and on Trans World Radio - Radio 7. In these programmes, the lover of the band U2 showed himself not only as a knowledgeable Bible scholar, but above all as a sensitive person who has an understanding of human weakness, but also a deep trust in God's love and mercy. The radio interviews were converted into written form by Petr Vaďura. They are published in book form as part of the Conversations over the Bible series.
