Lalečka

It is 1941, World War II is in full swing and a little girl, Rachel, is born in the Jewish ghetto. Her parents, Jacob and Zippa, call her Lalečka and would do anything to save her.

Just before her first birthday, the Nazis begin to liquidate the ghetto and systematically murder the Jews. Zippa hides with his daughter in the attic, where about a hundred other people are crowded. Jacob, who serves as a Jewish police officer, is clear, that staying means certain death for both of them, and decides to save his daughter for whatever it takes, even the highest price. He manages to smuggle her and his wife out of the ghetto, where Zippa finds his childhood friends Irena and Sofia. She hands over her beloved Lalečka to them and eventually returns to find out what fate has befallen her husband and parents.

Irena and Sofia take care of Lalečka throughout the rest of the war, despite the enormous risk, without looking
at the risk of a disclosure that would bring a cruel death not only to them but to all their loved ones…
