A life story interview with the legendary jazz trumpeter
Laco Déczi is vulgar, rude, loud, and a bit of a brute, says journalist Tomáš Poláček, author of the unconventional book-length interview Totally Blown Brain.
The famous jazz trumpeter invited Poláček to Connecticut, USA, in the summer of 2017, where he has lived for the last thirty years. They spent their mornings catching clams in the ocean and their nights sitting by the fire, listening to jazz, all while conducting an interview in which Laco Déczi completely opened up. “After a while, he dropped his well-known boorish mask,” says Poláček, “and I got to know his very free, gentle, and playful soul.”
And the book Laco Déczi - Totally Blown Brain is just like that – profane, offensive, politically incorrect, and at times boorish, but also playful and gentle.
