K. M. Čapek-Chod: Turbine

K. M. Čapek-Chod, who is known for his penchant for the tragicomic and grotesque, also makes full use of this artistic technique in his novel Turbine. He was able to invert the plot so that the work of fiction became a "novel of life disillusionment" in which every character loses his illusions and dreams. An instrument of fate that was merciful to no one, the author chose the same water turbine that was installed despite all the warnings and frequent bad premonitions of several characters. It is she who becomes the symbol of the decline and ruin of the whole family, even the cause of the death of another novel hero who deserves attention in terms of naturalistic analysis.
