Josef Kroutvor: The Flight of a Little Bird

A unique opportunity to get a glimpse into the life story of Josef Kroutvor, the famous essayist, art historian and poet, is offered by his memoir The Flight of a Little Bird. The ten-part series, divided into short chapters, is based on the author's manuscript, published by Torst in 2019. It reads: Vladimir Javorsky. In the text, Kroutvor returns to his childhood in Prague during and after the war, his studies of art history, his travels not only in Central Europe, his friendships with painters and poets, and his home in the South Bohemian town of Kramolín. Josef Kroutvor (born. 30 March 1942) is one of the supreme experts on the cultural and spiritual milieu of Central Europe. He is able to vividly evoke vanished epochs and portray cities and artists in a plastic way. Kroutvor's essayistic style is unmistakable in the contemporary Czech environment - his artistic erudition is combined with poetic vision and cartoonish insight, his unreflective thinking with neocoral language.
