Jiří Suchý z Tábora: The river
A chamber drama for two actors, The Speaker tells the story of a woman caught up in her own past. It takes place during World War II. The main character, a successful Prague theatre actress, falls into the Gestapo's crosshairs after her husband emigrates to the West. Before her arrest, she flees Prague for the countryside to live with her son, whom she once abandoned after his birth to pursue the theatre. Here she meets her grandson Honza, of whose existence she had no idea. It seems that at the end of her career she will have to play the role she once rejected - that of mother and grandmother. Jiří Suchý from Tábor was awarded the Czech Radio prize for Řečiště in the Alfréd Radok Prize competition.
