Jawa Californian
The book focuses on the period of Jawa's motorcycle production, during which it achieved success on world markets with its Californian model. The fact that the motorcycles were, with a few exceptions, intended only for sale to foreign customers, preferably from the USA, cast the Jawa Californian motorcycles under a certain veil of secrecy.
Based on the published information, the reader gets a comprehensive picture of the export of Jawa motorcycles to the USA and the emergence of a new line of motorcycles in the now hardly understandable period at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. By introducing the flagship models of Jawa motorcycles, pre-designed for the discerning foreign customer, the gradual efforts to establish itself in the internationally competitive US market are brought into focus.
The contribution of the book is a detailed mapping of the technology of Jawa Californian motorcycles and their predecessors, including a detailed description of all produced versions. The author emphasizes the harmonization of the description of individual construction details with the period context and specifics. In the book he managed to collect a large amount of pictorial material which in the past was presented only to foreign visitors. A significant asset of the book is the presentation of unrestored or only sensitively restored motorcycles. The description of individual construction details is appropriately aligned with the period context and specifics.
The book helped to fill a gap in another of the little documented corners of the history of motorcycle production in our territory.
