Jaroslav Vrchlický: The Princes

The time of the early Premyslids is a time of legends and legends - the less verified historical information we have, the more we can let our imagination run wild. In the first two parts of the Premyslid trilogy (Drahomíra and The Brothers), Jaroslav Vrchlický focused on the feud between Ludmila and Drahomíra and the murder of Saint Wenceslas. The last part of the trilogy, The Princes (1903), begins a generation later, in February 999, at the time of the death of Boleslaus II. Pious. His son, Boleslaus III, ascends the throne. Red. He does not hesitate to brutally put his two younger brothers out of the way. He feels all the more threatened by the younger princes because he himself has no son, only a daughter.
