Jaroslav Putík: Transformations of a young man
The story of a boy from the mining frontier who comes of age at the end of the First Republic, undergoes a difficult ordeal in a German concentration camp during the occupation, and after the war becomes a representative of working-class youth among Prague's university students. The novel is full of the bitterness and irony characteristic of a part of the generation that entered life full of hope in the first post-war years. With further development they are stripped of their illusions and brought to their knees by hard reality. Jaroslav Putík cooperated extensively with the literary editorial staff of Czech Radio in the 1990s. He prepared readings for the continuation of his prose The Man with the Razor (1990), Transformations of a Young Man (1991), Leaving the Castle and Odyssey in Czech (1992), Plush Dog (1996), meetings with literature - a series of observations and short stories from the collection Ringing the Clouds entitled The Prague Pedestrian, in the series Life-judgments-personalities, a narrative about his life and work called Moving Sands (both programmes in 1999). It reads: Miroslav Wednesday
