James

James - a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel - is a specific retelling of Mark Twain's famous story The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. However, the main character is a black slave Jim and with him the boy Huck. They both happen to be on the run: Jim because he is about to be sold, Huck in turn seizes the opportunity and prepares to leave his tyrannical father. He uses pig's blood to make it look like someone killed him. He doesn't realise that his disappearance can be attributed to Jim. So begins a dangerous and unpredictable journey on a raft down the Mississippi River to the freedom he desires.
