Lenin's thesis that the Bolshevik revolution must triumph throughout the world has one reason - there must be no escape from the supposed "paradise". And when the transformation of the global order failed, the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain had to come into being. One of the greatest crimes of communist totalitarianism distorted the fate of people on both sides of the fortified border. Those on the eastern side are of course far more numerous. This publication deals with the stories of people whose lives were indelibly marked by the Iron Curtain on our western border - not only in the good, but especially in the bad. They were both villains and heroes. However, it is very difficult to answer the question of who was the villain and who was the hero...
Jaroslav Mareš
Graduate of Journalism and Media Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University and Information Studies and Librarianship at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. In 2000 he joined Czech Television, where in 2005 he won the award in the journalism category at the international Ekofilm festival for his series of reports for the programme Reporters of Czech Television. Since 2014 he has been a member of Josef Klíma's team. Since 2016 he has been making his own reports for the channel researcher.net for YouTube.com. Jaroslav Mareš's first book Největší záhady kriminalistiky (The Greatest Mysteries of Criminalistics) was a bestseller at the end of 2018. He followed up his success in June 2019 with the publication of the book Top Secret Scandals about stories of our history that were not allowed to enter history textbooks.
