Interpreter I

Janis of Morphen, the filthy rich and suitably corrupt advisor to the king, is an object of admiration, envy and gossip, but also a dealer of trifecta cards. And as it happens in Tenerife, the interpreter who misses once in the forecast, goes down in flames. For pragmatic reasons, interpreters make deals with forces that protect them from error. Although Janis stubbornly resists offers of a deal, his predictions, surprisingly, work out. But once he gets caught up in the struggle between the old gods and the new, he gets closer to trouble with every step he takes. He tries his fate so hard, as if he really wanted that limit.
