Eva Grestenberger's humorous novel In the Wild West
Doctoral student Malvína Velehorská has to interrupt her studies at Oxford and return home to northern Moravia due to her poor mental state. There, she has a peculiar family waiting for her - her father is a politician, her mother is a fan of Karel Gott with autistic tendencies, her grandparents are sickly Catholics and her cousin is an occasional alcoholic. Motives involving communal politics, a range of folk festivities from feasts to hockey, learning to drive a car or cohabiting with children put Malvina at the centre of bizarrely comic situations. As a social psychologist, he sees his family as a promising ground for anthropological study. However, she is not so good at the role of a Moravian villager.
